Moore & Co. double rifle in 500-3". Circa 1870-78. Excellent action, locks and barrels. Very nice shooter with nitro for black loads. .510" Hawk or Woodleigh bullets work great. Action lock up is via a patent wedge bolt patent No. 3091. The action is marked "Pectangular Wedge Bolt Patent No. 3091" Very tight and solid lock up. Locks work perfectly and are non-rebounding with 1/2 cock sliding hammer safetys. Top tang engraved: " Patent Wedge Bolt". Left side of action erngraved "Eley's 500 Express Cartridge". The top rib is engraved with " Wm Moore & Co. 43 Old Bond St. London No.1964A". Tight English scroll engraving covers 50+% of all the metal. The 28" barrels are marked "Henry's Patent" (for the rifling) and have the Adams and Tait serial numbers and mark. 80% of the Damascus finish remains and the metal is smooth with no pitting. Inside, the rifling is clean with no frosting or pitting. This is a nice shooting rifle with smokeless loads and the correct 440 grain bullets. It is accurate and shoots to the sights, The cross pin forend is fully checkered with no damage. The buttstock has nice figure and coloring along with full over the top checkering. Engraved steel grip cap, solid red recoil pad and silver oval that has initials engraved that I cannot make out. It sports a 15" LOP so it will fit just about anyone. This is a superb example of a English double rifle that is easy to load for and quite useable today. It should make a great addition to your collection.
