Description:
This 12 bore was rebarreled by Westley Richards with 30” fluid steel nitro London proofed barrels. The rib is marked “New Barrels by Westley Richards & Co Ltd London” and, judging by the toplever design it almost certainly was made by Westley Richards for Army & Navy. Serial number is 4975 which puts date of manufacture circa 1892. It has low rebounding hammers which sit below the shooter’s line of sight when cocked. The action will open when the barrels are cocked.   ***   The nitro steel barrels have 2-1/2” chambers and are proofed for 1-1/8oz loads at 3 tons. Bores are shiny. Bluing is in very good condition with some wear in places. Right barrel has a bore diameter of 0.719 with a constriction of 0.011 for Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.027. The Left barrel has a bore of 0.731 with 0.020 constriction for Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.25.   ***   The gun appears to have been restocked sometime in the past with a beautiful highly figured piece of walnut. There is a professionally repaired crack exactly where you would expect it to be on the bottom of the stock extending from the front knuckle. There are a few minor handling marks. The Length of Pull from the front trigger is 14-5/16” to a checkered butt with heel and toe plates and very shootable dimensions of 1-11/16” by 2-3/8”. Slightly cast-on for the lefthanded shooter but can most likely be bent to cast-off.   ***   This beautiful bar-in-wood  shotgun weighs 6lb 8oz, is well balanced and swings nicely. A solid bar-in-wood hammergun from a quality maker would be a great gun for clays or upland shooting.   ***   Please note that photographs are part of the description. Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period which begins when the item is delivered to your FFL dealer or to a shipping address designated by the purchaser in the case of a gun classified as an Antique. Returns at buyer’s expense.   ***   Come and see this great double and other fine shotguns at the MacNab booth at the World Side-by-Side Championship & Exhibition (AKA Vintage Gunners Cup) September 7th – September 9th, 2023 at Warrington Sporting Clays in Wellsville, PA.
