Description:
The Colt 1911 is perhaps the most famous semi-automatic pistol ever made having a long and successful carrier in both military and civilian use. The 1911 and its cartridge, the famous .45 ACP, were designed by John Moses Browning to fulfill a requirement by the U.S. Army for a new service pistol which would also become the first semi-automatic to be officially adopted by the U.S. Army, replacing the M1909 revolver in .45 Colt in service. The 1911 proved to be one of the most reliable and durable semi-automatic pistols ever designed, successfully serving the U.S. Armed Forces through World War I, World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. The example shown here is a Gold Cup Trophy. The Colt Gold Cup has always been a sought after model of the 1911 as they are the highest tier variation of the 1911 that Colt manufactures. When it was originally introduced in the 1950s, the Gold Cup National Match (as the model was originally known) quickly became the standard by which all other .45 ACP Bullseye pistols were judged. There is a much greater amount of attention to detail put into the manufacture of these pistols that the standard Colt-produced 1911. The barrel is accurized and is accompanied by a thicker barrel bushing than typically found on a 1911. The rear sight is an Elliason and is fully adjustable. It has a much smaller profile than the Bomar style sights found on later Colt target models. The three-hole aluminum trigger is adjustable. The Gold Cup Trophy Model replaced the Gold Cup National Match on the production line in 1997 and was made until 2010. The example here is a first-year production gun. It retains 99 percent or better of the original finish. It has been fired but very little. The trigger breaks consistently at around 4 lbs. 4 oz. A red laser has been mounted to the trigger guard. It comes with an 8 round (Colt stamped) magazine, the spare lighter recoil spring, and the original box. There is no manual.
