Here we present an antique Williams & Powell Side by Side Double Rifle, made circa the mid-19th century in Liverpool, England. Thomas Williams and Samuel Powell bought the business belonging to Mrs. Ann Patrick (formerly Edward Patrick and Jeremiah Patrick before that) at 10 Pool Lane in Liverpool in 1833. In 1846 the partnership ended, but which of the partners left, retired, or died is unknown, and continued to be known as Williams & Powell. In 1905 the business was sold to Westley Richards.
This side by side gun features both barrels in .63 caliber (.63” from land to land, .69” from groove to groove). The barrels are a fairly short length at 27-1/2 inches with express sights. This gun also features double triggers. This gun would have been intended for hunting medium to large and perhaps dangerous game.
The overall condition is good. Plum patina throughout. The actions are excellent. The bores are clean and well-rifled. The stock has been cracked and repaired all the way around the lock area.
