Description:
J P Sauer, “The Knock About” 16 gauge SxS sidelock shotgun.  I do not know the age of this cute little 16 but I am quite certain that it is pre-WWII, in that it was imported by von Longerke and Detmold, NY.

It is a true 6-pin sidelock action with double triggers and automatic safety and cocking indicators.

The Krupp steel barrels are 26” long, have chokes of .003” & .020” which would be light Skeet I and Improved Modified; 2 ½” chambers.  It has a tapered, raised solid rib with a silver front bead and an extended third fastener (in addition to the double underlug locks).

The wood is fairly plain which helps keep the overall weight of the gun to 5 lbs. 11 oz.  The stock has a Prince-of-Wales grip, a 14 ¼” LOP over the original butt plate and 1 ½” DAC with 2 5/8” DAH and a ¼” cast favoring a right-handed shooter. The splinter forearm has a Deeley latch and it is nicely checkered like the grip.

The gun is very nice original condition with barrel finish with an exception for some exterior pitting on the right side near the breech; fine/bright bores.  95% wood finish with nothing other than expected light handling marks.  The frame was probably case colored and now is worn to a smooth dull grey.  Screws are all good/very good.

The presents well and handling wise it is lively between the hands while balancing at the hinge pin.
