Colt 1862 4.5" Police Revolver. Manufactured first year 1861. Serial # 1968. THIS REVOLVER JUST YELLS CIVIL WAR!!! Inscribed on backstrap
"DEATH TO TRAITORS" A.W.S. I believe these initials are those of Aldolphus Schwab CO.A, 1st DC Cavalry. "Death to Traitors" was the motto of
COL. Layfette C. Baker, commanding 1st DC Cavalry. The 1st DC Cavalry was also armed with the Martial Henry Repeating Rifle. Aldolphus Schwab is the only cavalryman with those initials in companies A,B,C,and E which were the first companies formed in June 1863. The other companies wer formed from Oct 63-Early 64. I couldn't locate his middle initial W anywhere, but that isn't unusual. This has to be taken as spectulation, but I believe it to be correct. Just look at that inscription, "DEATH TO TRAITORS", it just screams CIVIL WAR!!!! Revolver is all original, no finish, just carried thru the war. All numbers match including the wedge. Functions well. I've handled many inscribed guns in my time, but this has to be one, if not the COOLEST!!! Please call 973-214-3407 with questions. Thankyou ON HOLD
