Presented here is a very nice classic nickel Smith & Wesson Model 29-2 revolver chambered in .44 Remington Magnum. The Smith & Wesson Model 29 is a six-shot, double-action revolver chambered for the .44 Magnum cartridge and manufactured by the United States company Smith & Wesson. At the time of its introduction the Model 29 was the most powerful production handgun, although it was later overtaken by handguns chambered for the even larger .454 Casull and .50 Action Express cartridges. It was made famous worldwide by association with the fictional character "Dirty Harry" Callahan. The Model 29 will chamber and fire .44 Special and .44 Russian cartridges, as the .44 Magnum was developed from the .44 Special and the .44 Special was developed from the .44 Russian. The Magnum case is slightly longer to prevent magnum rounds from being chambered and fired in handguns chambered for the .44 Special. This particular example is in very good mechanical and physical condition with light handling marks. This fine Smith has been shot some but it certainly hasn't fired much at all since 1978. The 8 3/8" pinned barrel has an excellent bore with strong rifling. Sights are an adjustable white outline rear and a ramp front with red insert. The hammer and trigger are of the wide target variety and both retain good color. The hammer and cylinder release are checkered and the trigger is grooved. The walnut grips are in excellent condition with sharp checkering, S&W medallions and are free of cracks or chips. The cylinder has moderately light turn rings and the action is smooth and sure....cylinder lock up is very goood in the "fired" condition and gap between the front of the cylinder and back of the barrel is minimal. This fine Smith & Wesson would make a great addition to a collection or an excellent hunting handgun.
