Description:
An excellent example of a rifle used in the Great War, this Australian Lithgow SMLE NO.1 MK III Bolt Action Rifle in .303 British was manufactured at ROF Fazakerley in Australia. Enfield serial numbers were used more for production counting than any other reason, and therefore provide little information about the actual date of production. It is marked 1942 on the rear stock ring, but that is more likely because the rifle was reissued for action in WWII than indication of the date of manufacture. The Lee action design with rear locking lugs and cock-on-closing bolt operation makes the rifle very fast and relatively effortless to cycle. So quick that that German soldiers of WWI would think the British were armed with machine guns. This firearm is in good condition, all matching, and is very shootable and collectible.
