Description:
The Browning Superposed has always had a devoted following. By the 1970's During the mid-1970's Browning made a special purchase from the FN plant of a small group of ornate, hand-engraved Superposed meant originally for the European market. This group of about 250 guns total had special serial numbers with the "C" prefix and were referred to as the "C Grade Exhibition" guns. Of the 250 or so C Grade guns, maybe as few of 17 of them were 28ga. guns, making them a VERY RARE OFFERING OF THE BROWNING SUPERPOSED. There were 10 different groups of C Grade Exhibition guns displaying various levels of décor. This gun falls into "Group F-1" with its sideplates, blued action, and gold wire inlays. What a gorgeous, simple, elegant example of a factory side-plated Exhibition Grade gun, with midnight blue frame and furniture delicately inlaid with fine gold wire. The wood is fully figured, exhibition quality walnut ending in a skip-line checkered butt, and the workmanship is impeccable throughout. The wood-to-metal fit, the quality of the metal polishing, the meticulous striking of the barrels, demonstrate the quality and craftsmanship that made the Browning Superposed and the artisans at the FN Belgium factory famous the world over. There are some small marks in the wood and only the faintest signs of a primer mark on the standing breech of the action. There is a few small scuff marks on left side of the action. The 26" Full and Full barrels have perfect bores. The factory Superposed Airways case that comes with the gun is in excellent condition as well and includes the key. Weighing just 6lbs 6oz and balanced perfectly on the hinge pin, it is magnificent. 28 Gauge
