Description:
The Spencer rifle and carbine were the first military metallic-cartridge repeating arm manufactured between 1860 and 1869. Adopted by the Union Army during the American Civil War, The Carbine model was designed for cavalry use and as shown on the top of the receiver, this one was made by the Burnside Rifle Company as, Spencer could not meet the demand for rifles and carbines during the War. This carbine was most likely made in 1865 or 66 and features the Stabler cut-off device which allowed the carbine to be fired as a single shot if desired and then switched to repeater when needed. .52 Cal Rimfire

Metal Condition: "Fair, showing a dark patina and surface pitting and field marks on the barrel. Screw heads show moderate marring
Wood Condition: A hairline crack shows on the left side just aft of the saddle ring base. The fore end shows moderate scabbard wear near the tip forward of the barrel band
Bore Condition: "Bore is bright but, shows pitting and wear at the lands and grooves
