Description:
RALPH BONE “FOLDING HUNTER - Whale Bone Scales

This unique example of Ralph P Bone’s “Folding Hunter” knife model will appeal, especially, to serious Ralph Bone custom knife enthusiasts, because a) it was made by Bone the immediate following year, after his departure from Ralph Bone Knife Company, when he was residing in Denver, Colorado and, after having sold his interest in the Ralph Bone Knife Company, had agreed to cease producing all “Ralph Bone” knife models on a commercial basis.

Accordingly, the subject knife, equipped with rare whale bone scales, a carbon steel blade and brass bolster and liners, bears no typical trademark / identifying stamp nor inventory production stamps of Ralph Bone nor of the Ralph Bone Knife Company.  The knife bears, only, the minute hand-applied inscriptions “R Bone ’75”, on the left ricasso, and “Denver, Col” on the right.  The left bolster is engraved with bold block letters “DCE”, indicating that Bone custom-made the knife for a specific customer.  The carbon steel blade is heavily tarnished and welcomes a good cleaning.

Accordingly, the subject “Folding Hunter” example is quite a rarity among Ralph Bone knives and should be a welcome addition to the most serious Ralph Bone knife collector.  The standard production Ralph Bone “Folding Hunter” knife model was among the most expensive offerings of The Ralph Bone Knife Company, the listed sales price of which was surpassed, only, by those of Bone’s largest straight-knives, the “Classic Bowie” and “Arkansas Toothpick”.

For full details on Bone’s “Folding Hunter” and his other knife models, the custom knife making careers of Ralph Bone and Enedino De Leon and Bone’s mastery of custom gun making and engraving, see this seller’s book, “The Artistry Of Ralph P Bone”.
