Actually, this gun is a rework. I admit to having no previous experience with the 1875. I msitakenly, originally thought that this revolver was a pristine and rare example of the Remington 1875 revolver. After a recent conversation with an RKI, who is a well informed collector of these firearms, I have learned that this piece has an incorrect front sight and that the manufacturer's roll stamp on the barrel is not in the proper font. Further, the cylinder, grips, extraction rod housing, hammer and trigger are all likely replacement parts. It apparently has also been refinished. I believe that the revolver is chambered in .44 Remington, the first caliber offered in this model by Remington. The exterior nickel plated surfaces are near 100% condition, with minimal surface scratches and freckling. The case hardened hammer exhibits bright, strong coloration. Frame screws and trigger are finished in bright niter (fire) blue, retaining all of their original appearence. Two piece walnut grips are in excellent condition and show no wear. The inside surface of the loading gate and left side of grip frame (under walnut grip) are stamped with "450", the serial number. There is a very fine spin ring on the cylinder's exterior. The cylinder locks up tight and the single action functions flawlessly. The bore and cylinder interior chambers show no signs of having ever been fired, though I cannot guarantee that this is the case. The only additional issue with this revolver is that I have been unable to remove the cylinder base pin from the frame, and therefore have been unable to remove the cylinder from the frame. The spring mechanism in the cylinder base pin appears to be intact, but I can't pull the pin out of it's frame housing. Otherwise, this gun looks nearly as pristine as the day it was manufactured. While this is admittedly a reworked sample of the 1875, it is in exceptional condition. When I thought this was the "real deal", I priced it at $4950...which was a great value for a Remington 1875 in pristine condition. Now that I have been educated on the true status of the gun, I have halved the price to $2450...still a great value for a rework in this condition (according to my RKI source). Comes in a wooden (cherry?) presentation box as I received it from it's owner. This revolver is considered an Antique Firearm by the ATF so can ship directly to the buryer
