RARELY OFFERED FOR SALE, SHOULDER STOCK FOR THE FAMED COLT MODEL 1851 NAVY REVOLVER. This one is in the correct serial range for these, #79XXX, which puts its production date at 1857. Most of these shoulder stocked revolvers were sold on the civilian market (this one was made 4 years before the beginning of the Civil War) and this example has fancy '"fiddle-back" striped grain to the walnut. It may have been part of a deluxe cased set at one time. The serial number is correctly stamped just behind the bottom clamp in the brass and has the correct sling swivel. If you look carefully, you can detect an oval wood inlay in the bottom of the stock about 3 inches from the butt plate. It is possible there was once a silver or brass presentation or identification plate that was removed, or perhaps a second sling swivel that some stocks seem to have been fitted with- either way it was done so well that it is hard to detect. Mellow brass fittings and butt plate, excellent wood that fits well and is dark from age that could use a good clean to reveal more of the fancy grained walnut. Fine steel adjustment wheel and bottom clamp.
