CUSTOM SCHUETZEN SINGLE SHOT RIFLE ON A FALLING BLOCK WORKS, MAYBEE, MICHIGAN ACTION, .375 WIN. CALIBER. These actions were very strong and resembled the Stevens 44 1/2 action. Not sure if they made complete guns or just sold the actions- I believe they did both, but not sure. They were out of business around 1990. I'm thinking this example was built on one of their actions purchased "in the white." They were known for having hard steel in the actions and this one was probably built on one of their actions as the markings are getting a little faint , but fully visible on the side of the action and the blue is a purple-ish hue typical of hard steel actions (some early Ruger firearms show this too!). The high polished 28" octagon barrel with recessed target crown is marked "MCGOWEN BARREL .375 WIN." The high cheek piece Schuetzen style stock is made of a very high grade of burl walnut and fitted with a hooked Schuetzen butt plate. The schnable forend is of matching walnut. The blued trigger guard/lever is full Schuetzen style and the rifle is fitted with a single trigger. The rifle comes with a mounted Bushnell 10X Banner scope with duplex reticle and fine optics. The .375 Win. is simply a shortened .38-55 case with a true .375" bore diameter. It can be loaded down with black powder (or smokeless) and cast bullet or loaded up with jacketed bullets and stout charges of smokeless powder. Tight action, light/crisp trigger pull, bright sharp bore. Weighs right at 12 lbs.
