Guns Listing ID: 773012

The SVT-40, or Tokarev rifle, was a self-loading rifle that was developed under the Soviet Union back in 1938. Post WWI, the world‚‚s superpowers quickly realized that the semi-auto rifle was the next step in elevating the effectiveness of the infantry soldier by giving them superior firepower over their opponents. While the first major nation to mass issue out a semi-automatic rifle was France, and the United States was the first nation to formally adopt a self-loading rifle as the standard issue weapon for their troops, the Russians also played major roles in progressing the unfolding development of the rifle.

Prior to the Red Soviet revolution, the Russians were already pressing the envelope with the Federov Avtomat rifle, widely accepted as the world‚‚s first ‚‚assault rifle‚‚. With manufacturing and development setbacks during the Soviet takeover, it would be the mid 1930s by the time the Soviets picked back up on replacing the rapidly aging Mosin-Nagant rifle.

Fedor Tokarev was a known firearms designer of the time, having developed the TT-33 handgun, the standard issue handgun for the Soviets for several decades. With a major cartridge design, a submachinegun design in the Tokarev Model 27, and the success of his handgun design, Fedor Tokarev attempted to continue his legacy with a new fighting rifle for the Soviet military. The SVT-38 and SVT-40 are short-stroke system semi-auto designed rifles, utilizing a tilting bolt and a gas tap rod, a system much like that of the later designed FAL. This rifle would increase the speed and efficiency of the soldier‚‚s ability to fire. The rifle feeds off of 10-round magazines and is fed with Mosin-Nagant stripper clips. Due to labor, material, and time shortages, the SVT-40 was unable to replace the Mosin-Nagant, yet still served the Soviets during WWII.

The SVT-40 is an exceptionally sought-after rifle due to its rarity in the U.S. market, and this will make quite the collector‚‚s piece.

This model is a 1941 Tokarev. It has a sling and includes one 10-round magazine and a cleaning rod.
