Most Fox enthusiasts realize that the best of the A.H. Fox guns were produced when Ansley H. Fox was in charge, which lasted until early 1912.  While at the helm, Ansley Fox demanded the highest quality, and in fact often inspected the completed guns before shipment with his own eyes.  We have had several hang tags that showed Mr. Fox's signature in pencil or ink as the final inspector.  The parts were more highly polished, both inside and out, the overall workmanship was superior in the way of fit and finish, and the selection of wood for each grade was better as well.  This gun, sn13536 built in 1910, demonstrates all the above.  Incredibly, the gun is in very high, factory original condition, with all factory finishes, including the wood, even at 113 years of existence!  The engraving is crisp, the wood to metal fit is perfect, screws are perfect, the case color is at a vivid 95%, barrel blue 98%, and the trigger guard showing a deep, dark charcoal blue at 99%.  The gun matches the factory records exactly as shown in the factory letter and order card. This is one of the best early A Grades you will ever see in all your travels or on the internet.  Weight is 7lbs. 4.5oz. and she balances just forward of the hinge pin for perfect handling dynamics, even with its #1 weight, 28” Krupp Steel barrels.  The bores are mirror shiny, no dents or dings, with sharp lettering and crisp rib matting.  Most of the early American 12ga. guns were short chambered for 2 5/8” shells.  PRESENTLY IT IS DIFFICULT, IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE, TO FIND 2 ½” 12GA. SHELLS TO PURCHASE.  BECAUSE OF THIS, VFI GUNSMITHS HAVE CAREFULLY MEASURED THE BARREL WALL THICKNESS AHEAD OF THE CHAMBER AND HAVE LENGTHENED THE CHAMBERS TO 2 ¾” AND EXTENDED THE FORCING CONES TO 1 ½” TAPERS SO THAT YOU CAN SHOOT MODERN 2 ¾” FIELD LOADS THROUGH OUR GUNS.  This is a $360 service in our shop.  Modern chambers and long forcing cones makes for safe shooting with softer recoil and better patterns, which benefit the shooter and preserve the integrity of these fine old double guns.  See the specifications below, and note that the stock dimensions are very modern and shootable, another hard to find feature for a gun from the turn of the 20th century!  Don't miss the opportunity to own a minty Fox from the best era of production.
