The Winchester 94 can be considered “The Deer Hunting rifle”, as it, along with the .30-30 cartridge, has arguably been used to take more deer than any other rifle/cartridge combination in history. Originally produced as the first commercial smokeless powder rifle, the Model 1894 (often shortened to ’94 or 94) and the .30-30 Winchester round set the benchmark for deer hunting rifle and cartridges everywhere. Indeed, the .30-30 Winchester is considered the starting round in the category of rifle cartridges suitable for deer hunting. This rifle is a post-64 commemorative model and is perhaps one of the most important rifles of the commemorative models, if not the rarest. It celebrates the Bicentennial, the 200 year period between the founding of the U.S. in 1776 to 1976 when the rifle was built. The coin-finished receiver is engraved on both sides of the receiver: an eagle on the left side of the receiver, and the number “76” surrounded by 13 stars on the right side. The magazine should hold 6 rounds. This rifle is pre-owned but is in excellent condition. The finish on the receiver is visibly tarnished and has an oily color in the right light. Some bright spots show through, particularly on the upper tang. A light polishing compound would take of the tarnishing if the job was performed by a proper gunsmith. The bore is in excellent condition – there is some no rust or pitting. The bluing is near immaculate. The wood furniture is beautiful with hard a single flaw. This rifle comes with its Styrofoam box and the outer paper sheath. It would make a fantastic addition to any Winchester collection.
