Description:
CIVIL WAR Tower Pattern 1856 UNION & CONFEDERATE Smoothbore CAVALRY Carbine

British Enfield Pattern w/AFGHAN “Bring Back” Paper

Here we present an antique British Proofed Tower Pattern 1856 Cavalry Carbine Musket made in 1858 in Birmingham, England. The Enfield 1853 and 1856 Cavalry carbine were used by both the North and the South in the American Civil War. The 1853 was the second most widely used infantry weapon in the war, surpassed only by the Springfield Model 1861 Rifled Musket. The Confederates imported more Enfield Patterns during the course of the war than any other small arm, buying from private contractors and gun runners. It has been estimated that over 900,000 P1853 and P1856 Enfields were imported into America and saw service in every major engagement of the war.

Included is a leather sling and a U.S. Armed Forces affidavit “bring back” paper from Bagram, Afghanistan dated July 11, 2016 listing this carbine by make, model, and manufacture date.

The overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age. Solid stock. Some repairs have been made around the wrist and on the buttstock, and remain stable. Legible markings. “1858” dated lock. Good leather sling.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 21 inches.

Caliber: .62 Percussion

Overall condition as seen in photos.
