!859 Sharps 30" Single Shot Percussion Rifle. Serial No. 55942. One of the 2000 rifles made especially for The FAMOUS HIRAM BERDAN'S 1st and 2nd REGIMENTS OF SHARPSHOOTERS. One of ,if not the most famous units in the AMERICAN CIVIL WAR. You know the history so I won't go in detail describing them. This rifle is a used honest BERDAN. The way you want to see one. Does have some minor pitting in a few areas as seen in the pics. Exceptional bright bore with great rifling. Action is fine . Double set triggers work perfect. Original front and rear sights. Old label on back of butt plate from a previous collection or museum. Barrel markings are a little weak, but are mostly visable. Cartouche is visable. Barrel inspection stamp of Ainsworth (O.W.A.) is only partially visable. Basically just the W. Stock and forearm wood is totally original and never sanded. Wood to metal fit is the way a collector wants it, perfect. Whats really great is that this exact rifle is listed by serial number in Wiley Swords ' BERDAN SHARSHOOTER BOOK list of surviving correct rifles. Book was published in 1988.
