Description:
This WWI bolt action rifle is an Eddystone Model of 1917 chambered in .30-06 Springfield. Eddystone production of the Model 1917 rifle was a premier achievement in arming the American soldier in World War I. Rifle manufacture in Eddystone is an outstanding example of the dominant industrial role of Pennsylvania in arming and equipping American and Allied forces in World War I. A rifle is the most prolific military arm and Eddystone Model 1917 rifles armed more American soldiers than any other weapon used in the Great War. This particular firearm has a number of cartouches on the stock (see photos), a steel butt plate with cleaning kit storage door (no actual cleaning kit included), a winged-protected fixed blade front sight, and a rear receiver aperture battle sight calibrated for 400 yd (366 m) with an additional flip-up ladder. The barrel is marked "E, flaming bomb, 8-18." The bluing is in good condition overall with considerable loss at muzzle and on the sharp edges. The wood is in good condition with no major chips, but does show considerable handling wear and marks throughout. This firearm has a great patina throughout. It comes with a Turner Saddlery aftermarket leather sling. .30-06 Springfield
