Description:
1892 SADDLE RING CARBINE, .25-20 CALIBER, #833XXX, MADE THE YEAR WE ENTERED WORLD WAR I IN 1917. Fine wood that shows normal handling, but no abuse and tight wood to metal fit. The receiver is mostly gray with some good blue in the rear section around the saddle ring and in the more protected portion of the right side rear. Good blue on the loading gate and lever sides, excellent screws, tight action with positive half-cock safety notch on the hammer. Original carbine rear sight with slide intact, fine barrel and magazine blue with some light thinning. Exc. markings. Bore was dark when I got this one and after running a number of patches and brushing, I believe more cleaning will reveal an excellent bore. Loads of black crud came out and my take on it is that someone shot a load of "moly-coated" bullets in this one and it simply built up in the bore. Lead removing cloth patches came out as if they were painted black! No doubt more scrubbing and shooting a few jacketed bullets would make things right! As it is now, the bore is fine and does not appear pitted- just some crud left in the grooves, not the lands- all sounds worse than it is. This one recently came out of Arizona.
