This little revolver has matching assembly numbers on the frame, barrel, and cylinder, with traces of the original blue remaining on protected areas of the barrel. The majority of the barrel and cylinder have a dark, mottled gray patina with small spots of freckling scattered about, mostly at the breech-end of the barrel, and on the cylinder face. The brass frame retains about 80-85% of the original silver-plated finish that has tarnished to a mellow blue-black patina over time, and has pale yellow-ochre fading along the high edges and projections. The rosewood grips are original and numbered to the gun on the interior, with some minor handling marks on either side, as well as some small chips around the flare of the butt. The barrel lock-up is tight, with practically no lateral play, and the action is fully functional. This is a very good-fine example of an early tip-up S&W overall.
