ETIENNE Model AN XIII Flintlock CAVALRY Pistol WWII Bringback from Canosa, Italy 1943 Here we present an antique Napoleonic Era French Pistolet Modèle An XIII, or Pistol Model AN 13, made at the St. Etienne Arsenal in France between 1806 and 1814. This one is marked “CANOSA NOV 1943” on the underside of the stock, alluding to its being found during Allied operations there, before it was brought back to the US by a servicemember. The stock is marked “BLACHON CO” and the breech of the barrel and the stock flat are marked “B”, which is the mark of Antoine Blachon. “TB AN 12” is stamped on the left part of the grip. “Circle/G” is stamped throughout as an inspection marking. This is the Classic Military Flintlock Pistol of the Napoleonic era, made at the IMPERIAL ARSENAL at ST. ETIENNE, an Arms Manufacturing installation in St. Etienne, France, in the eastern central region of the country. The arsenal produced arms such as swords from medieval times to 1764 and became a primary French firearms production facility. It produced arms all the way through the World Wars and finally closed in 2001. It was used by cavalry and marines alike. This pistol is very likely to have seen action in the Napoleonic Wars during this period. Other significant conflicts include the Second French Intervention in Mexico as well as the Franco-Prussian War. This model was manufactured at all three of the French Arsenals, Charleville, Maubeuge, and St-Etienne. This pistol was made as a cavalry pistol and continues to survive in its original flintlock state. Over 300,000 of these pistols were made during their 8 year production run. This pistol was designed to equip mounted units, each horseman using two pistols. It was also used by the Navy. An improved version, known as the M1822, was produced after the Napoleonic Wars. Proving that imitation is the greatest form of flattery, the Americans copied the design as the “Harpers Ferry Pistol” and used it against the British in the War of 1812. This pistol is of robust construction with lots of brass for support. The bore is a massive .69 caliber. The overall condition is very good. Original patina. The action is strong and holds both half- and full-cock. The bore is smooth and patinated. The stock is solid and shows use in addition to the soldier graffiti giving the provenance information. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 9 inches. Caliber: .69 Flintlock Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
