Springfield - Trap Door – Long Range - 45-80 - Stk #P-35-5
This original Springfield Model 1873 “Long Range” Trapdoor is chambered for 45-80. This Trapdoor was specifically designed for the Army in the 1870’s for long range marksmanship competitions. The barrel is a 31-¼” with a 1:19-3/8 twist blued tapered round barrel that has H R stamped in front of the receiver. The 6 land and grove bore is in very good condition. The barrel has a windage adjustable hooded Winchester front sight and a Veneer rear sight. The receiver is in good condition as well. “U.S Springfield” is stamped on the lock plate next to the spread eagle and is activated by a single trigger. The breech block has been patented “US / MODEL / 1873. The full length wood stock is in very good condition with some usage marks. This rifle still has the original metal pistol grip with the original owners information engraved on the bottom and a Hotchkiss butt plate. There is a SWP/1881 cartouche on the left side of the stock just above the trigger. Rifle comes with the original ramrod. The condition of this rifle is very good. The length of pull is 13-5/8”, the overall length is 51-5/8”, and the weight is 9.2 lbs.
