Description:
LNIB Rare Remington 720 that was awarded to a Marine for his victory at the USMS Corps Championship in 1976. This rifle is a Walsh trophy, named after Marine Colonel Walter Walsh.
Official paperwork confirming this comes with the rifles.
Produced circa 1941-1942, the Model 720 rifle was used by the departed of the Navy as a trophy item for shooting competitions. About 2,000 were made for the government ( later transferred to US Navy) and a small number for civilian use.
This U.S. Property rifle features ramp bead front and semi-buckhorn sporting rear sights, with the two line address on top of the barrel between the sights, the 2-line caliber marking on the left side of the breech and small commercial inspection marks on the right.
Model and makers marks on the receiver and checkered pistol grip stock, with sling swivels, crossed cannon and F.J. Atwood ("FJA") inspector stamps on the left side of the buttstock with steel buttplate.
These rifles are very rare as only about 2,000 were produced for Navy purchase. Not to be confused with other guns that are available online that were for civilian use.
I doubt that it's possible upgrade this rifle, it's in almost mint condition, original finish with 99% bluing, all matching, comes with original box is serialized to the gun and official paperwork.
Floorplate is marked "SECRETARY OF THE NAVY 1976 WALSH TROPHY WINNER", cartouche and FJA inspector mark are on the stock, not import marked, no rust or pitting on metal, no cracks on wood, excellent bore.
Very reasonable price, however offers welcome.
Similar rifles sold on houses for about $5,000 plus 20% buyer premium and tax.
Most of those rifles rifles sold for around $5,000 were not in this great of a condition and/or didnt have the official paperwok and numbered box.
