SALE PENDING AT 4-20-23. This is a lightly used JC Higgins model 51 in 30-06. The wood is very good (I think the Model 51 was their deluxe model), the barrel bore is excellent, and the bluing is very good. These rifles were made in the mid 1950s using FN commercial Mauser actions made in Belgium, and barrels made by High Standard. The barrels were cut rifled and chrome lined, among the highest quality barrels put on a production rifle. The stock is a classic monte carlo style and is in good shape with very nice wood and the original JC Higgins buttplate. I don’t know if the stock work was done at FN or at High Standard, but it was done well. There is a place on the left side where some solvent got on the finish and stained it and a scratch on the right side that is shown in the photos. Otherwise just normal handling marks over its about 65 year life.
This rifle is all original except that the original trigger was replaced with a Timney trigger. However, I have the original trigger and that is included. The rifle is set up with a scope and mounts, so it works as a hunting rifle, and also works as a good collectible rifle. Thanks for looking and please email me with any questions.
