Description:
This Colt Model of 1911 U.S. Army was manufactured in 1916. Carried by 2nd Lieutenant J.P. Hargis during WW I at Fort Delesepps in the Canal Zone, (Colon-Limon Bay) Panama this gun remains in very good overall condition. Original blue shows some holster wear with wear on backstrap from sweat and some light oxidation on slide. Right side is engraved "JPH". Left side is stamped "United States Property" on frame and has "GHS" (Gilbert H. Stewart) Acceptance mark on trigger guard. Barrel is stamped "PH". Grips are checkered walnut diamond and remain solid with no cracks and good checkering. Bore is very good with rifling still visible. Gun is complete with "Statement of Ordnance - Stores Purchased" from December 6,1917 that shows original purchase of this gun with serial number and the "U.S." stamped leather holster, plus other items such as canned meat, knife and haversack. Belt also has original first aid kit and magazine carrier with two extra two tone magazines (3 total). All 3 magazines have lanyard ring with a stamped "X" on the rear. Once in a while a gun comes along that makes you wish you could see the history like a movie in your mind. This gun is one of those! .45 ACP
