RARE .30-30 Win Bolt Action REMINGTON-LEE Model 1899 BOX MAGAZINE Rifle
One of Only 1,446 Sporting Rifles
Here we present a rare C&R Remington-Lee Model 1899 Bolt Action Magazine Rifle in .30-30 Winchester, manufactured circa 1899 in Ilion, New York. The Remington-Lee rifles were on the cutting edge in their day and some were sold to the US government for both Army and Navy contracts. The original Model 1879 was actually made by the Sharps Rifle Co. and .45-70 Govt seems to be the most common chambering by far of all types. In 1881 Sharps closed and all the tooling was transferred to Remington who then produced Lee’s rifle until the end of production (1880-1907). Of the very few Model 1899s, only an estimated 1,446 were the “sporting” model and even fewer specifically in the .30-30 Winchester chambering.
The overall condition is good. Original patina. The action is excellent. The bore is shiny bright with sharp rifling. The walnut stock shows some use and a stable split along the left side of the receiver. There was once a sling swivel mounted near the toe of the stock. There is the remnant of an interesting rear peep sight mounted on the back of the cocking piece as well as two drilled and tapped holes at the rear of the right side of the receiver. The barrel mounted sights are replacements. A very neat little .30-30 bolt action rifle unlike anyone else’s!
