Description:
For sale is very nice WWII Commando , manufactured in 1943. Chambered in .38 Special cartridge and fitted with a four inch barrel.  The original documents show the  1946 purchase from the US Goverement General suply Division Mt. Reiner Ordanance Depot of the Commando by 1st Lieutenant Floyd S. Adams  and following the 1947 sale and registration in North Carolina of the Commando to  Eugine McCoy. Included is the original 1943 holster, in excellent condition.  Ordinance Bomb and GHD inspector acceptance stamp are visible  which indicated government use. There is the expected cylinder drag line. The Coltwood grips are near perfect.
World War II era Colt Commando is a variant of the Colt Official Police revolver.  War Department and the Colt  began full scale production in November of 1942. Approcimately 49,000 Commandos were purchased by the U.S. Government during World War II. The U.S. Army procured more than 16,000 while only about 1,800 went to the U.S.Navy in the early war years. A total of 12,800 were issued to U.S. Intelligence organizations.
