Description:
VERY FINE CONDITION 1885 HIGHWALL .22 LONG RIFLE CALIBER MUSKET, #117XXX, MADE DURING WORLD WAR I IN 1916. Quite a bit more scarce than the Lowall Muskets typically made in .22 Short caliber, this example is correct and unaltered. It is fitted with the correct 1901 adjustable rear barrel sight that was also used on the Krag military rifles. The receiver shows fine deep original blue with light very small areas of brown beginning to creep in. Fine lightly aged barrel blue. Excellent butt stock and forend with tight wood to metal fit, nice reddish-brown Winchester finish that has never been sanded, good blue on the forend cap, tight action and excellent bright bore, crisp trigger and strong half cock safety on the hammer. Overall shows just light handling. Very hard to find excellent bores on these as most were shot with corrosive ammunition and not cleaned immediately after firing. This is a very fine example inside and out.
