Description:
Here we present a Fabrique Nationale Model 1922, made circa 1942-1943 in Herstal, Belgium, near Liège. This pistol is a variant of the Model 1910 and is known as the Model 1922 or 1910/22 with a production run beginning with the Model 1910 in 1910 and continuing with the Model 1922 until 1983. This FN Model 1922 semi-automatic pistol was designed by John Browning and manufactured by Fabrique Nationale of Belgium. As is this pistol, Model 1910/1922 pistols went on to see extensive service in World War II and continued to be manufactured by the Germans after their occupation of Belgium and seizure of the FN factory.

This example has Third Reich production stamps, and like most has checkered black plastic grips bearing the FN logo. While the Model 1910 was widely sold on both civilian and military markets, the Model 1922 was considered specifically a military and police pistol, with FN offering it to individual civilians only by special order. Compared to the Model 1910, it was a larger model with a longer barrel, slide extension, and a longer grip frame to accommodate an extra two rounds. This example has the Third Reich proof marks of “Eagle/WaA140” and “Eagle/Swastika”.

Historically speaking, an FN Model 1910, serial number 19074, was the handgun used by Gavrilo Princip to assassinate Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914, the act that precipitated the First World War. During both World War I and World War II, the FN 1910 was used by the militaries of Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Finland, and Japan.

The overall condition of this particular FN Model 1922 is excellent, with lots of original factory finish remaining.  The bore is bright and clean with sharp rifling, and the action is smooth yet tight, and everything functions perfectly.  Both grip panels fit well and are in very fine condition with the expected amount of handling marks. This pistol is all numbers-matching and has strong/sharp stampings.  Included with the gun are two magazines and a holster.  One of the magazines is in the correct late-war parkerized finish and stamped with the correct FN logo for WW2 production with no Waffenamt on spine(correct for late production where this step was eliminated in interest of time), and the other is an early-war high-polish factory magazine with the correct original Waffenamt stamped on the spine.  These early high-polish magazines were issued with the high-polish guns before they went to the dull "military blue" finish as the war progressed. The holster with this gun appears to be a post-war commercial piece, which looks very much like the WW2 German military version but is completely unmarked.
