Description:
Manufactured in late 1898 or early 1899, this beautiful and rare Colt Single Action was shipped to Hartley & Graham in New York City on May 10th, 1899. While it has the new cylinder release frame design, this gun was not guaranteed for use of smokeless powder ammunition and does not have the verified proof (VP) on the trigger guard. It neither has the larger front sight nor improved rifling, specifically designed for smokeless powder cartridges. For these reasons, Single Action guns manufactured in this brief period (1896 to 1899) are considered "Transitional", and are difficult to find. Apparently, this gun was used very little and was well cared for. The bore is sharp and bright, the mechanics are as new, and it retains approximately 95% of its original finish. No parts have been replaced. Screw heads are all excellent and still show factory bright blue. It is 100% original to the day it left the factory in 1899.
