Underlever 12 Gauge & .38 (9.6mm)
Here we present a C&R Belgian Double Barrel Side by Side Cape Gun by Bernard, made circa the turn of the 20th Century in Liege, Belgium. This one is interesting and unique in that it appears to be a double-barreled shotgun that has been sleeve in the left bore with a rifle conversion. We believe that the rifled bore is chambered in .38-55 WCF. The right bore remains a smooth and standard shotgun bore chambered for 12 gauge 2 ½” shells. Double hammers, double triggers.
The locks and the trigger guard are engraved with sprinting dogs and a fleeing deer. These were gold filled.
The overall condition is near fine. Original blue finish and gold remaining. The actions are excellent. The bores are in very good condition: the rifling is sharp and the shotgun bore has smooth and reflective surfaces. The stock has nice grain and some character in the form of the knots. The molded butt plate is a nice touch. A handsome double gun from Belgium!
