Colt POLICE POSITIVE SPECIAL
Here we present a C&R Royal Hong Kong Police Colt Police Positive Special made in 1971 in Hartford, Connecticut. The Colt Police Positive Special is a medium-frame, double-action revolver featuring a six-round cylinder, primarily chambered in the .38 Special caliber. It was designed primarily for sale to federal, state, or local law enforcement agencies and enjoys the distinction of being Colt’s most widely produced revolver design with over 750,000 built.
The Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) is the primary law enforcement, investigative agency, and largest disciplined service under the Security Bureau of Hong Kong. The Royal Hong Kong Police Force (RHKPF) reverted to its former name after the transfer of sovereignty of Hong Kong from the United Kingdom to People's Republic of China in 1997. Pursuant to the one country, two systems principle, the HKPF is officially independent of the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China, which under usual circumstances may not interfere with Hong Kong’s local law enforcement matters. All HKPF officers are employed as civil servants and therefore required to pledge allegiance to the Hong Kong Basic Law.
The Police Positive Special was a small improvement over Colt's earlier Police Positive model, the only differences being a slightly lengthened cylinder and elongated and strengthened frame to allow the chambering of the longer, more powerful .32-20 Winchester and .38 Special cartridges. It was also made in .32 Colt New Police and .38 Colt New Police. It was made with 4", 5" and 6" barrels and came with either wood or hard rubber grips.
The overall condition is fine. Original finish. This one has been converted to .38 Special from its original chambering. The new chambering designation is on the barrel under the original designations and has been confirmed. The action is excellent. The bore is shiny bright with nice rifling. The grips are solid. Numbers match on the frame and crane.
