Payment Types Accepted: Visa,Master Card, Discover,Check Description: This is a very handsome Colt Model of 1877 "Thunderer" double-action / single-action revolver chambered in ..41 Long Colt that is in very good and all-original condition inside and out. The vast majority of these we encounter are in bad shape and the action is broken, probably a ratio of somewhere between 70 to 80% have completely broken actions or they are badly out of time. Getting this handsome example in that is both unmolested and 100% functional is rare indeed! The Colt Model 1877 was a double-action revolver manufactured by Colt's Patent Fire Arms from January 1877 to 1909 for a total of 166,849 revolvers. The Model 1877 was offered in three calibers, which lent them three unofficial names: the "Lightning", the "Thunderer", and the "Rainmaker". The principal difference between the models was the cartridge in which they were chambered: the "Lightning" being chambered in .38 Long Colt; the "Thunderer" in .41 Long Colt. Both models had a six-round ammunition capacity. The "Thunderer" was the preferred weapon of Billy the Kid, even carried by him when he was killed by Pat Garrett in 1881. Doc Holliday was also known to carry a nickel-plated "Thunderer" in his waistband as an accompanying gun to his nickel-plated Colt 1873. Both had ivory or pearl grips. While this example shows a grey patina on most of the frame and barrel, the grip frame, triggerguard, the trigger, the rear face of the hammer, and a good part of the cylinder still show some very nice original gloss blue. Some of the protected areas also still have factory finish showing. The factory finish on the frames of these pistols is well-known for flaking off rather than actual mechanical wear. This is probably because of a higher than optimum nickel content. The bore in the factory 3.5" inch barrel is excellent! It is bright and clean with sharp rifling the entire way from the forcing cone to the crown of the muzzle. This is not common as most were fired with corrosive ammo and not cleaned right away. The six chambers if the cylinder are also in superb condition. Mechanically this Colt revolver is in excellent condition with the double and single-action functioning perfectly. The action is extremely smooth and slick, and the timing is perfect no matter how it is operated or what speed. At full lock the cylinder just has tiny amount of play in it, another thing these are known for. All of the controls are in perfect working order on this handsome Model 1877. The checkered rosewood grips are spectacular on this Colt and quite frankly make up for a lot of the flaked finish on the frame. They are both very beautiful and in amazingly good condition exhibiting no cracks, chips, repairs, or excessive wear. The checkering on both sides is still crisp and clean, and the grip is perfectly tight to the frame with no wiggle. Shipped to a dealer in New York in 1879 this Thunderer qualifies as an antique and can BE SHIPPED DIRECTLY TO YOUR HOME! This fine Colt would make a great addition to any Colt collection or an excellent addition to antique gun collection. Factory letter from Colt is included.
