Description:
Serial #125 (Reg. #2427), .41 RF, 26" barrel with a fair-good bore that has some dark freckling and minor pitting along its length. This is a handsome rifle, built upon an oversized Sharps pepperbox-type frame, and retains the Sharps’ sliding barrel mated to an external extractor on the left side of the frame. The barrel itself has about 30-40% of the original blue remaining, mostly towards the breech, and the balance has turned to a mellow plum-brown color with scattered spots of freckling here and there. The retailer name is engraved along the top flat: "R. DOBSON KING ST. BRIDLINGTON QUAY" (Yorkshire); and the Tipping & Lawden maker’s marking is arranged in a circle around the hammer screw on the left side. The frame retains muted original color case-hardening, with the balance turned to a mottled gray and plum-brown patina. The English walnut buttstock is in very good-near fine shape, with some minor handling marks and small blemishes in the original varnish, as well as a small amount of damage at the toe of the butt. The barrel lock-up is tight, and the action is fully functional. This is a rarely seen Tipping & Lawden rifle, built on a famous Sharps patent, and would make a great addition to any collection.
