Description:
This is a full, 20 original rounds, of .45-75 Winchester “Centennial" 1876 ammunition manufactured by Winchester for the Centennial Model 1876 rifle. The extremely rare box is of the first type identified by Giles and Shuey on P84 in One Hundred Years of Winchester Cartridge Boxes, 1856-1956 and has the unique outlined “20" with italicized “Cartridges" on the top label making this a very rare R4, one of 25 presumed to exist. The green and black top and side labels are fully intact with excellent clear graphics showing only light age soiling and minor small staining with a tiny tape repair to the right top side. There is a prominent “Centennial" 1876 call out and the reloading label takes the entire side label with 6 different powder recommendations. The buff box is solid with older tape repair to the top right side and a seam split along one side of the bottom that has a newer tape repair on the outside. The cartridges are in excellent condition. An excellent overall example of an extremely desirable and very rare first type box of the iconic “Centennial" cartridges.
