Description:
Spanish ASTRA Model 900 Copy of MAUSER C96 Broomhandle Pistol PRE-WWII C&R

1929 Manufactured Semi-Automatic SPANISH HANDGUN

Here we present a C&R Spanish Astra 900, which is a copy of the Mauser C96 Broomhandle Pistol, made circa 1929. This Astra Model 900 is one of many Spanish copies of the German Mauser C96 semi-automatic pistol. It shares the same caliber, magazine capacity, and holster type and is overall very similar to the German handgun. Astra-Unceta y Cia SA delivered 21,000 weapons from 1927 to 1941 for China, Latin America, Spanish Republicans, and the Wehrmacht with 1,050 delivered in 1943. There were five variants made of this pistol with a total of 35,076 examples produced.
In referencing the German made Mauser C96, the Mauser Construktion 96 was the Mauser Company’s most successful pistol and was even used by the likes of Winston Churchill during the Boer Wars. He is attributed as saying that it was “the best thing in the world”.

The distinctive characteristics of the C96 are the integral box magazine in front of the trigger, the long barrel, the wooden shoulder stock which gives it the stability of a short-barreled rifle and doubles as a holster or carrying case, and a grip shaped like the handle of a broom. The grip earned the gun the nickname "broomhandle" in the English-speaking world, because of its round wooden handle, and in China the C96 was nicknamed the "box cannon" because of its rectangular internal magazine and that it could be holstered in its wooden box-like detachable stock. With its long barrel and high-velocity cartridge, the Mauser C96 had superior range and better penetration than most other pistols of its era. The 7.63×25mm Mauser cartridge was the highest-velocity commercially manufactured pistol cartridge until the advent of the .357 Magnum cartridge in 1935.

This overall condition is well-used. Original finish/patina. The action is functional but the hammer spring is a bit anemic. The bore is completely smooth. The grips are solid.

This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic.

Barrel is 5-1/2 inches.

Caliber: 7.63x25 Mauser Auto

Overall condition as seen in photos.
