Description:
***   REDUCED   ***   Very handsome W.J. Jeffrey 12 bore with 30” nitro steel barrels and extensive rose & scoll engraving with loads of original case coloring. Jeffrey no. 5859 was made 1896 – 97. Although Jeffreys earned its reputation for it superb rifles it also is known for its equally high quality shotguns. This one has a nicely figured European walnut stock and forearm. Beautiful Woodward-style arcaded fences. Double triggers, ejectors, and manual safety. Weighs 6lb 12oz.   ***   The 30” nitro steel barrels are chambered for 2-1/2” shotshells. They are topped by a raised solid concave gamestyle rib. The rib is inscribed “W. J. Jeffrey & Co. 13 King Street St. James’ London”. The barrel bluing is generally good but there is some thinning of the bluing on the sides of the chamber areas of both barrels. The right barrel is bored 0.721 with a constriction of 0.000 for Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.026. The left barrel is also bored 0.721 and has a constriction of 0.010. Minimum wall thickness is 0.024. Ideal choking for upland gunning and clays.   ***   The straight grip stock and splinter forearm are made of nicely figured European walnut. The checkering is crisp. There are a few minor handling marks on the stock from normal usage and a small XXX on the left side of the forearm. Stock dimensions are 14-7/16” including a 1” recoil pad by 1-1/2” by 2-1/8”. Cast off for the righthand shot.   ***   A handsome gun with extensive engraving, arcaded fences and great handling characteristics. Would make a great gun for clays or game.  ***  Please note that the photographs are part of the description. Not for sale where prohibited by state or local laws. Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period, Returns at buyer’s expense.
