This Colt 1902 Sporting is one of approximately 190 "parts cleanup" pistols made at the very end of production in 1907, in the serial number range from 30000 to 30190. As Doug Sheldon's "A Collector's Guide to Colt's .38 Automatic Pistols" states, these are very rarely encountered. This pistol is an all-original, unmolested example with the correct original grips and unmarked magazine. The original high-polish blue finish has the typical scratches and handling wear, with some speckling throughout. The trigger still retains a good amount of the fire-blue finish. The front and rear of the grip frame have turned to patina. The grips are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks. The magazine is the proper variation (polished blue base with no markings) and is solid with no dents or cracking. The bore is a bit rough, with good rifling but some erosion in the groves. The exterior of the barrel is the proper high-polish blue finish throughout, including the chamber area visible through the ejection port. The proper brass firing pin is intact with no cracking.
