Payment Types Accepted: checks, cashiers/bank check, money order Description: UNUSUAL AND RARE CONFIGURATION 1893 WITH FAMILY HISTORY. This special order Lightweight takedown rifle is in .32-40 caliber and features a 20" half-octagon barrel with half magazine and shotgun butt butt plate. Importantly, it has the correct shorter than standard forend used on these special short rifles that measures just under 7" metal-to-metal. Further, the barrel is threaded for silencer and has the protective thread cap- looks factory original. The individual I got this rifle from knew the original owner who sold him the rifle as an old man. The original owner said this was his "Out-Of-Season" deer rifle (i.e. poaching rifle!) that he used for many years in Oregon. He also said he buried the silencer in the woods so he wouldn't get in trouble for owning it illegally! At one time it had a side mounted scope on it as it does have the mounting screw holes and faint outline of the mount on the left side of the receiver and two corresponding small holes in the barrel top (filler screws in all holes). There is a nearly identical rifle pictured in The Marlin Book by Brophy. There are also some photos of scoped Marlins. This one with serial number 410XXX is marked with the early "Model 1893" tang stamping which was later changed to "Model '93" in 1905. I would think this was one of the last to have that early full date stamping. Interestingly, the hard rubber Marlin embossed butt plate has approx. 35 very neatly inscribed "kill notches" on each border edge- that's about 70 kills! The barrel is marked "SPECIAL SMOKELESS STEEL" and retains nearly all the original blue with fine markings. It is fitted with a three leaf folding rear sight with all leaves intact and a Sheard marked Marble long blade with bead front sight. Takedown is tight. The receiver shows some very light case color but is mainly a mottled silvery-gray. Excellent wood, tight action and about perfect, bright bore. A rare 1893 lightweight half-octagon short rifle in a scarce caliber with a fascinating history!
