Payment Types Accepted: Visa,Master Card, Discover,Check Description: ****SOLD**** This is a WW1 production Smith & Wesson U.S. Model 1917 revolver in .45ACP. The Model 1917 revolver was put into production during WW1 in 1917 as a supplement to the U.S. Military's standard issue Model 1911 .45 ACP automatic pistol. There simply were not enough 1911's in inventory or in production to arm the rapidly expanding A.E.F. forces. The Model 1917 revolver was manufactured by both Smith and Wesson and the Colt firm during WW1. This 1917 is in very good overall condition with about 60% of the original bluing remaining, the balance being an even patina. The U.S. Property marking on the bottom of the barrel has been removed which is common on on U.S. sidearms that made their way into the civilian world. The action is still tight on this gun and in perfect time, and the barrel has a nice bore with only very light frosting in the grooves. The smooth walnut grips show wear typical of a service revolver of this era. This is a cool shooter grade 1917 revolver that likely saw combat in WW1, and possibly World War 2 as well.
