Description: The Colt Commander was developed in response to complaints from users of the original Colt 1911A1 about the heavy weight of the pistol (when loaded) and the difficulty of carrying that much weight on a regular basis as well as the difficulty of trying to conceal carry a pistol of that size. The resulting Commander Model is identical to the 1911A1, except it has a shorter 4.25” long barrel and it uses an alloy frame. This gives it a weight of approximately 1.72 pounds. The original Colt Commander was introduced in 1950 and produced until 1969. It was superseded by the Lightweight Commander Series 70 in 1970. The pistol shown here left the factory in 1968, according to the Colt Serial Number Database. It has a blued finish which is in roughly 95 percent condition or better. The bore is in superb shape. There is some light finish wear atop the grip safety as well as on the lower edges. The trigger also exhibits some light finish wear on the sides. The grips appear to be unique to this pistol though they do have Colt medallions. They are Stag grips made from American Elk. The magazine spring housing pin is reversed. Mechanically, the pistol is in excellent shape and is very tight. Please see the pictures above. Overall, this 1911 is in amazing shape and would make a nice addition to any 1911/Colt collection. There is no box, but it does come with one Colt-factory magazine. SOLD Handgun Caliber: .45 ACP (.45 Auto) Manufacturer: Colt's PT. F.A. Mfg. Co.
