Description:
The Sig Sauer P226 is one the world’s most famous pistols and has seen service all over the world, most notably with the U.S. Navy Seals. It was originally created for the U.S. Army’s 1984 pistol trials to find a replacement for the famous 1911A1 pistol. Of the participants, only the P226 and Beretta’s 92SBF passed the trials. Ultimately, the Beretta won out purely due to a lower total package price. This has left a wake of endless arguments ever since. Despite the loss, the P226 was ultimately selected by the U.S. Navy Seals as the P226 Mk 25 variant with a special finish for resistance to corrosion. The P226 would also eventually replace the original 9mm-chambered versions of the P220 in production. As the latter pistol held only 9 rounds of 9mm, it’s easy to see why the P220 in 9mm was discontinued. The present Sig pistol is fairly clean and retains most of its original finish quite well, a testament to the strength of Sig’s famous Nitron finish. The barrel, which uses a more conventional blue, exhibits the wear typical of a used Sig Sauer. Needless to say, the barrel’s top surface over the chamber exhibits the most wear. This comes from the friction that occurs during the firing sequence where the action is in the process of cycling. The bore itself is in excellent shape. The original grips have been replaced by a comfortable set of Hogue rubber grips with finger grooves. Unsurprisingly, the frame was made in Germany. My best guess is that the pistol was made sometime between the years 2000 and 2002. As mentioned in the title, this pistol comes with four magazines. One magazine is a 17-rounder made by Mec-Gar who is known for manufacturing Beretta’s magazines, but also for Sig Sauer and quite a few others. Of the other three magazines, two are factory ban-era 15-rounders with the restricted to police only markings on the front, while the other magazine is a post-ban factory 15-rounder. It’s interesting to note that the police magazines have a matte gunmetal gray finish while the post-ban magazine has a high-gloss blue finish. All four magazines were produced by Mec-Gar. In addition to the magazines, this P226 comes with the original box and manual.
