In the early 1960s, the Russian defense ministry was aware that they needed a change in their support weapon platform from the belt fed machine used for infantry squad tactics and movements to a lighter weapon system that could accept the same magazine system that regular riflemen This pushed Mikhail Kalashnikov to design the RPK, an AK pattern rifle with a heavy and beefed up receiver, trunnion, and barrel. The RPK and its variants have been in service ever since. US made/stamped receiver.
Molot-Oruzhie was established in 1940 and in the 1960‚‚s was the first factory to produce the RPK design and their line of VEPR firearms are held in high regard. This VEPR 1V RPK is chambered in 5.56, offering the shooter lower recoil and a readily available cartridge. This rifle features a bipod, a 30-round magazine, a 20-round magazine, a spare Russian RPK bakelite furniture set included, a PK-A Red Dot sight, a sling, and a cleaning rod.
