Description:
General Specs: Fox, Year 1921, 16 Gauge, 6lbs 3oz; 6lbs 1oz, Chokes IC/IM; M/F
Serial Number: 356985

What do we have here???  A rare Fox BE 16ga. gun, one of 186 made and impossible to find 30” barrels, single selective trigger, English style stock, AND A TWO-BARREL SET IN A CUSTOM FIT CASE???  And an IMPOSSIBLE FIND WITH A 16 3/16” LOP FROM A REAR POSITION FOX/KAUTZKY SINGLE SELECTIVE TRIGGER…TALL GUYS YOU HAVE FOUND THE HOLY GRAIL, THE UNICORN, THE UNOBTAINABLE, AND IT IS AS NEW IN READY FOR THE FAST APPROACHING UPLAND SEASON.  Well let me explain, as all the above is true except one thing…VINTAGE FIREARMS, INC. (VFI) built this gun for a 6’5” client and it started life as a Fox Sterlingworth 16ga. with a factory Fox/Kautzky single selective trigger.  I know, I know…you are looking at a perfect Fox BE with all matching serial numbers, PROPER BARREL ROLL STAMPS, perfect, sharp late BE style engraving, the stock shaped to A.H. Fox perfection with BE Grade checkering, all in perfect balance and proportion, so what gives?  Look at the serial number, 356985,  definitively from the Fox factory serial numbers reserved for the 16ga. Sterlingworth guns.  Here’s the story; TALL guys cannot buy a vintage American double gun and expect to have the proper length of pull and stock dimensions.  IF you want a Fox gun that you can shoot, you find an expert Fox guy that has 4 highly talented side x side gunsmiths, and you commission them to build the gun you really want.  It is not for the faint of heart, but at the end of the project you have a valuable, historically correct A.H. Fox gun that you can shoot well and be proud of.  The starting point was the Sterlingworth, sn356985 built in 1921.  We fit a set of 30” Fox #3 weight 16ga. barrels choked IC/IM to the gun, and a set of 28” #3 weight barrels choked M/F to give the client versatility to hunt any North American game birds effectively.  We then picked a nicely figured, lightweight stock blank that would allow the gun to balance properly with the long length of pull and made a very hard to find English style stock, complete with a Fox long tang trigger guard.  The barrels and wood were perfectly fit, all internal parts were Ultrasonic cleaned, shined, inspected, lubricated, perfectly fitted to the gun to ensure “as new” reliability and function, all screws were made perfect and timed, both sets of barrels set tight on hinge and breech face, the bores all mirrors, the ejectors are strong and timed, and the sst functions flawlessly, we were ready for cosmetics.  You will notice that all parts have matching serial numbers and the gun appears to have come from the factory in all ways.  Once the gun was built, both sets of barrels, action, forend metal, and trigger guard were engraved in the late style Fox B Grade engraving patterns and are indistinguishable from Fox factory engraving.  In fact, it is BETTER than most factory engraved guns…more perfect…but still a perfect example of a Fox B Grade.  THE GUN WEIGHS 6LBS. 3OZ. WITH THE 30” BARRELS AND 6LBS. 1OZ. WITH THE 28” BARRELS AND BALANCES PERFECTLY JUST AHEAD OF THE HINGE PIN WITH THE SUPER LONG STOCK.  You could not get a better, dynamic handling long gun for a tall shooter.  Finally, we custom fit a trunk-style case to the gun so there is no movement of the gun inside the case, all wear points are reinforced with bridle leather, complete with oil bottle, cleaning accessories, snap caps, and an A.H. Fox maker’s label as the “icing on the cake”.  Look closely at the case and you will recognize it is not a generic case with a gun flopping about inside.  The case and accessories are a $1400 value.  The extra set of barrels fit to the gun, engraved, properly marked are a $3000 value.  The cost to properly stock a fine Fox is $5500.  You can see how this all adds up!  We can shorten the stock gracefully by as much as 2” if you choose, but we hope a tall shooter finds this gun and takes advantage of a FINISHED PRODUCT…NO 2 YEAR WAIT, FINISHED TO PERFECTION, AND READY FOR THIS SEASON’S UPLAND PURSUITS.  And of course, it is set up for any clay target games as well.  See tables below for specifications.  We have priced this gun at a cost that is less than the cost to produce, and no wait time, so don’t hesitate or she will belong to somebody else who move a little quicker!  Thanks for looking.
