Description:
Winchester Model 1866 SRC Rifle
  • .44 Rimfire caliber
  • Firing pin has the conversion with center fire pin
  • Made in 1886
  • Rare first year production!
  • Only 210 of all 1866 rifles were engraved or inscribed
  • Engraving pattern closely resembles the engraving pattern on the Henry rifle on page 84 of "The Winchester Book" by George Madis
  • Engraving similar to work done by Gustave Young at this time
  • Right side engrave plate is possibly a contemporary replacement
  • Saddle Ring Carbine
  • Action cycles
  • Barrel and magazine tube have silver grayed out with traces of blue
  • The engraved receiver still has traces of silverplate on top bottom and sides, as well as the tang
  • First model with the Henry drop in the receiver ahead of the hammer, no flair to accommodate forend and serial number is listed inside along with a tiny assembly number
  • Serial number assigned to the model 1866 were 12472 to 14813 in the year 1866
  • Originally known as "the improved Henry"
  • Measurements in comparison of Henry and first model 1866 frames indicate that the 1st model Winchesters could have been made using the same casting pattern as the original Henry's - slightly altered
  • Shows the changes from the original Henry rifle such as an enclosed magazine tube, forend, and saddle ring
  • Full length magazine tube
  • 20" round barrel
  • Barrel address is not present
  • Rear adjustable sporting leaf sight and blade front sight which is part of barrel band
  • Crescent butt plate with storage
  • Walnut stock in good overall condition with some handling marks
  • Bore has lands and grooves but is dark
  • Has the early threaded magazine cap without retention screw
  • Very rare and desirable Winchester 1866 SRC
  • Serial number 13472XX
