Description:
c1910 mfr WINCHESTER Model 1894 .30 WCF Cal. Lever Action C&R “SHORT RIFLE”

.30-30 Handy Rifle

Here we present a C&R Winchester Model 1894 Lever Action Short Rifle, made in 1910 in New Haven, Connecticut. The name “Short Rifle” is derived from the fact that this rifle is shorter than a rifle, not only in barrel length, but also in length of pull and weight. This made it easier to maneuver around in thick brush and making it much easier to tote around all day when one was out stalking that big buck.

The credit for the design of such a prolific firearm again lies with John Moses Browning, who lent his extensive design talents to a large number of weapon types throughout his career. The Model 1894 was the first Winchester rifle made for use with the new technology of smokeless powder and was developed as a hunting rifle. Over 7.5 million were produced from 1894 until 2006. While various cartridges were supported throughout the run of the gun, the .30-30 Winchester became its staple. In practical use, the Model 1894 became a favorite for general shooters and hunters alike. To this day, it remains a deer hunting favorite, and, in all likelihood, more deer have been taken with the 1894 than any other.

Manufactured in 1910, this example is a Model 1894 with a Model 94 Factory Replacement proofed barrel that was put on sometime after 1919. The magazine tube is more recently replaced.

The overall condition is good. Lots of wear is evident to the receiver. The action is excellent. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. The stock shows much use from wear with little chips in both the butt stock and the forearm. Otherwise solid.
