Description:
This is a nice early Colt New Army Double Action Revolver with the desirable checkered hard rubber New Army Grips with Rampant Colt and the "1892" Date. This is a scarce and desirable variation of the New Army Grips as most don't have the date. Caliber is .38 Long Colt with a 4 1/2" Barrel, and Blued Finish. This configuration was very popular with lawmen and civilians alike. The US Army and US Navy also purchased these Colt Double Action 38's; one of which was carried up San Juan Hill by Teddy Roosevelt during the Spanish American War. This one has the name of a previous owner on a small piece of paper found underneath the grips dated 1936. See Photo. The serial number is in the 69,000 range which dates its production to the year 1896. The barrel has the 1888, 1892, and 1895 Patent Dates. Matching assembly numbers are visible on the inside of the frame, the cylinder crane, and the cylinder latch. Overall Condition Grades to NRA Antique Excellent with 90% original blue overall that is uncleaned and in attic condition with a few spots of light surface rust and patina. The trigger and rear profile of the hammer, as well as the screws still retain strong portions of their original niter heat temper blue. The sides of the hammer still show most of their original polish. The grips are in fantastic shape with no chips, cracks, or repairs and strong checkering with sharp Colt Rampant Horse the the 1892 Date at the top of each panel. Nice action and bore. Original front sight has never been altered. Antique, Pre-1898 under Federal Law in accordance with the Gun Control Act of 1968. Sold as an antique collectible only.
