Payment Types Accepted: Money Order, Personal or Bank Check Description: Garibaldi rifle, Austrian model 1849, huge .71 caliber rifle with deep 12-groove rifling, this example still sharp and crisp. The majority of these guns saw use early in the war in the hands of Western theater Federal troops primarily from Wisconsin, Ohio, Illinois and Indiana. They saw hard use, and this example is in very nice condition. The wood is solid and without the cracks often seen in these beechwood stocked Austrian guns. Two small trivial chips exist, one in front of the lockplate and one behind (see photo). It has not been sanded down and the edges are still sharp. This still has the sling swivels, the original rear sight, and the ramrod is original and full length. The metal is smooth and attractive with nice aged patina. The brass trigger guard and butt plate show nice age and darkening. The brass side plate is stamped "156". The nipple is not battered, and the mechanics are strong and crisp. It is accompanied by its original bayonet which is a rare encounter on its own. The blade was sharpened at some point and is quite sharp. A reasonable price for this complete outfit.
